Expectations. Revised 14 March 2012

The following are REVISED expectations for all tenth graders keeping a vocabulary blog this year, 2011-2012. REVISIONS APPEAR IN BOLD CAPITAL LETTERS.

1. After starting your blog, email me your URL. For your host site, use either WordPress.com or blogspot.com.

2. List each post under the CATEGORY of the corresponding lesson.  For example, this year you are starting with LESSON FIVE.  In addition, list your post under one of the five prescribed categories.  Please use only these categories: COURSE READING, OTHER READING, CURRENT EVENTS, HISTORICAL EVENTS, PERSONAL EXPERIENCE.  You may list under more than one of these five.  (Note to blogspot users: instead of “categories,” blogspot uses the term “labels,” but it serves the same basic function.)

3. Once you have started your blog and created these five categories (plus the category for the lesson number), write posts for at least three words from Lesson 5.  If you want to challenge yourself, write these posts for words other than the ones I have used.

4. Follow the formatting you see in my posts.  For example, use bold font for the key word.

5.  As a minimum, write one sentence that uses the key word.  All posts should be listed in at least two categories: “Lesson 5: Feelings” and one other.  Once we advance to Lesson 6, you will need to add that label (“Lesson 6: Feelings”) to your list of categories.

6. STARTING WITH LESSON 7, WRITE AT LEAST TWO SENTENCES FOR EACH POST–IN ORDER TO DEVELOP THE IDEA IN THE FIRST SENTENCE.  IN OTHER WORDS, ALL OF THE SENTENCES IN A GIVEN POST WILL ADDRESS THE SAME SUBJECT.  YOU NEED NOT REPEAT THE ENTRY WORD, BUT ARE CERTAINLY WELCOME, AND EVEN ENCOURAGED, TO.

AS FOR CATEGORIES (OR LABELS) USE MULTIPLE LABELS, RATHER THAN THE SAME ONE EACH TIME–IN ADDITION TO THE LABEL THAT DENOTES THE LESSON NUMBER.
